Swelling & Fever – Bacteria or Virus?

Hope you are well. My son who is 11 years old developed a swelling on his right side of the neck where the lymph is on Friday. Saturday after playing basket ball and surfing; it swelled so much and he got a high fever. We took him tot he doc and she said it’s viral. What set shall I put for him? I am giving him the pulse sweep for viral set now.

One doc says it’s just viral and the other says it’s bacterial. Go figure :/) but ultrasound shows no abscess but shows moderate to severe lymph node swelling. He also got hit on it during his basket ball game.

Please let me know if you have further advice.

Which also covers both types of bacteria, positive and negative

Rule of thumb: If there is fever +swelling usually there is some virus implication. No fever but swelling, then bacterial infection…. In these above mentioned circumstances, bacteria is usually always part of the problem.
