The KP.3 variant originated from the Omicron variant. It shares similarities with JN.1 and has only two changes in its spike protein compared to JN.1. As of recent data, KP.3 is now the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant in the United States, accounting for 25% of COVID cases. Symptoms associated with KP.3 are identical to those of JN.1, including fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue.
