The V2 2017 series tended to get hotter, so as a precaution the instruction book mentioned to keep the machine on a flat surface, like table top
The V3 series now contain cooling elements on the mainboard, so the V3 runs fairly cool, around 3’f above surrounding room temperature
You can put the V3 quite safely on any surface, and there will be no heat issues.
We will retain the(original V2) advice in the book however, as a safety precaution only.
