Question:

I have been using the mask on low for 30mins daily for the past 4.5 months. As yet the cataract remains large and totally clouded. Thankfully, the cornea transplant has settled well with no recurrence of parasitic infection and the stitches are being removed bit by bit. The Consultant will decide on the best type of new lens in January.
My big worry is early stage AMD in the  eye and I wonder would switching to the AMD program be a better option or should I continue with the cataract one for another while?  Thankfully my other eye is great and I can read the last line in the chart!!!
Many thanks

Answer:

Thank you for your detailed update and for sharing your experience with the Retyne eye mask. It is excellent to hear that your cornea transplant has settled well, with no recurrence of infection, and that the stitch removal process is progressing. This is very positive news. It is also wonderful that your other eye remains strong and healthy.

Regarding your questions about the cataract and the optimal program for your early stage AMD, I can provide the following guidance based on the principles of the therapy.

Answer 1: Regarding the Cataract Progress

Your observation that the cataract remains large and clouded after 4.5 months of use is a common point of inquiry. It is important to understand that cataracts develop over a very long period, often decades, as the proteins in the lens slowly clump together. The process of supporting the body’s natural ability to address this is similarly gradual. For a severe, long-established cataract, it can indeed take years of consistent infrared therapy to potentially reverse the condition.

In your situation, where your Consultant is already planning for a lens replacement in January, this surgical intervention is the instantaneous and definitive resolution for the cataract. Given this clinical pathway, the primary goal of the mask for that eye may now shift from reversing the cataract to supporting overall ocular health and recovery.

Answer 2: Regarding Switching to the AMD Program

Your proactive approach to your early-stage AMD is commendable. Definitely, if early detection of AMD is apparent, we would recommend moving to the AMD frequency program.

The rationale for this is to direct the specific frequencies to the retinal tissues affected by AMD, which is a condition of the retina, rather than continuing to focus on the lens (the site of the cataract). Since the cataract will be surgically addressed, it is strategically sound to begin using the mask to support the health of the macula, which is crucial for central vision.

Our Recommendation:

We would advise you to switch to the AMD frequency program at this time. You can continue to use the mask on the same schedule (e.g., 30 minutes daily on low) for the eye with AMD. This will allow you to use the time before and after your upcoming cataract surgery to proactively support your retinal health.

Please continue to follow your Consultant’s plans closely for the lens replacement, as this will resolve the clouded vision from the cataract. Using the AMD program will be a valuable complementary approach to address your other primary concern.

We wish you continued success in your eye health journey and a smooth procedure in January.

Sincerely,

The Retyne Support Team
