Question:
S. H’s daughter has Urothelial Carcinoma Cancer.
She also mentioned kidney cancer – but then talked about Urothelial
Carcinoma Cancer.
I can’t find this condition in our list.
Answer:
Because the bladder is the most common site for cancer within the urinary tract, and because Urothelial Carcinoma dominates the cancer types in both the upper (kidneys/ureters) and lower (bladder/urethra) tracts, its overall prevalence is estimated at ~90% of all urinary system cancers.
In essence, when a cancer is discovered anywhere along the urinary passageways—from the kidneys to the urethra—the most probable diagnosis, by a very significant margin, is Urothelial Carcinoma. This is why the terms “Urethral cancer” and “urothelial carcinoma” are often used interchangeably
